Did you know that getting “Pre Qualified” is the very 1st step in the “home buying process”? This educates you on the price range that you should be shopping in to give you the house payment you are comfortable with. A loan commitment from a lender also gives you the power to submit offers on any homes that you like (without it you are not able to offer on a home if you fall in love with something) and it could take a few days to obtain this….meanwhile the home you like could be gone!
It is VERY important to choose a lender that is trustworthy, reputable and preferably local to the area you are shopping in. Besides your REALTOR, the lender is a very important team player and will determine a pleasant and successful closing of your new home.
